The Spoonful of Humility for Mama & Friday Family Fun Link-Up

Mama being fed by her five-year-oldBy Lisa Cherry

I hate dependency! I found that out, and a lot of other things about myself through the whole experience I’ve had recovering from rotator cuff surgery.

Today I was struggling to figure out how to eat my soup left-handed.  My five-year-old son Josiah, seeing my struggle said, Mama can I feed you?

Functioning as a one-armed mama who is in terrible pain and feeling miserable, has been one of the more difficult experiences of my life.

Also one of the most humbling. You see, I’m the mama here.

I'm the one that tells people what to do.

I'm the one to make sure that everyone eats their food.

I'm the one who gets in the car and finishes the errands.

Do you see all the I's in those last statements?

Hannah, please come and help me get my shirt on.

Matthew can you bring me the ice?

Rebekah can you come in here and put my foot stool down on my chair?

Doug can you drive me to the drugstore?

So when Josiah wanted to help me, my pride immediately jumped upNo. I would be just fine thank you.

That's when the Lord reminded me of something I'd been pondering the night before.

God resists the proud, but He gives grace to the humble.

So I quickly change my response and said, Yes Josiah, please help me.
